‘Worship God sincerely to avoid torment in grave’

COVID-19

A Muslim Cleric, Imam Garba Alyolawi, has urged Muslims to worship Allah with sincerity and be kind to fellow beings, so as to escape the torment of the grave when they are no more.

Alyolawi, who is the Imam of Area 10 Jumaat Mosque, Garki, Abuja, gave the admonition in his Jumaat sermon at the mosque on Friday.

He said that the grave constituted a stop-gap between death and the day of judgement, where the souls of righteous people would enjoy comfort and evil doers are punished before the day of judgement.

“In Islam, the term grave (Qabr) constitutes a third stage of human existence, the first two being the womb and worldly life.

“It is a period following death but prior to the day of judgement, when the souls of righteous people would be pleased and disbelievers and evil doers are punished before their final destination.

“Our departure from this world is inevitable. Grave is but a transitory place; a mere passage to our permanent abode, while the hereafter is for eternity,’’ he said.

The cleric explained that each of the phases of passage was determined by one’s deeds and beliefs while alive.

“For most of us, the hereafter is too frightful to even think about and such fear is informed by the lack of awareness of what exactly we will encounter once the soul disconnects from the physical body,’’ he said.

As a young dynamic business and entrepreneurship writer, and author cum small business owner, what came into my mind as we navigate the storms of COVID-19, was a common English phrase Adages, Proverbs, first recorded in Fuller’s Gnomologia, 1732: ‘A stitch in time saves nine’ which was translated to literally, solve the problems right now! Why procrastinating? If we, as a nation wants to break away from past mistakes, and present mistakes, we should hold the bull by the horn right now. And avoid the roads of political expediency. That is exactly what the stitch in time simply stood for. Promptly address issues posed by Coronavirus. By quickly sewing up of a small hole or tear in a piece of material, so saving the need for more stitching at a later date when the whole ha...
