Fun seeking Lagosians are, no doubt, in for a fun-filled Yuletide spell as the Sanwo-Olu administration’s long awaited Greater Lagos Fiesta officially kicked off across five locations in the state on Christmas Day. The five locations where the epoch making event is currently making wave are Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Badagry Grammar School, Badagry, Agege Stadium, Agege, Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu and Epe Youth Center, Epe.

The Greater Lagos Fiesta is clearly living up to expectation as its euphoria is yet to wane, and justifiably so. On Christmas Day, Lagosians thronged the five locations in their number in search of raw fun and they were not by any means disappointed. At each of the locations, the crowd was amazing, ecstatic and orderly.
Declaring open the 7-day event at the Lagos Bar Beach, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Shuli Adebolu disclosed that the plans and activities earmarked for this year’s celebration is bigger and unparalleled in the history of the event. Adebolu expressed happiness at the high turnout of Lagosians at the five locations, saying that it is an indication of their desire to be on the same page with the state government in its determination to promote tourism, arts and culture in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the idea of the five locations is to ensure that every part of the state is given the opportunity to have a taste of the enlivening Greater Lagos Fiesta experience. Indeed, one of the core objectives of the Fiesta was to foster unity among all classes and groups of people in Lagos. This is quite imperative in view of the multi-ethnic and mixed religion character of Lagos which has made the metropolis to be termed a ‘mini Nigeria’. Without a doubt, the necessity for unity in such a cosmopolitan city as Lagos cannot be overemphasized.
One distinguishing feature of the ongoing fiesta is the active deep involvement of the private sector. In order to reflect the thinking of the current administration in the state with regards to the Public Private model, the 7–day long event has sufficient private sector concern. It is a reflection of a deliberate strategy by the state government to fully involve the private sector and other key stakeholders in the grand scheme to make Lagos Greater.
Hence, corporate bodies such as Guinness, Access Bank, GT Bank, Zenith Bank, Airtel Nigeria, Mikano, GLO, Bet Naija, Indomie, Coca-Cola, SAB Milller DSTV are playing a huge role in the event. The participation of these corporate sponsors, undoubtedly, has turned the fiesta into a massive entertainment project, whose memory will be cherished by many Lagosians for a long time.
One significant trait of the current Fiesta is its near perfect security arrangement. That such a massive event is being held across five different locations in the state without any security breach is a reflection of the good work the state government is doing to stabilize security in the state. From the outset, the vision of the Sanwo-Olu administration is to make Lagos Africa’s business and entertainment hub. A major defining act of the administration in its first 100 days is the strengthening of security mechanism in the state through the purchase and deployment of utility and operational vehicles, power bikes and others to the State Police Command.
The Greater Lagos Fiesta is, no doubt, providing a boost for the tourism and entertainment industry in Lagos. The industry, no doubt, is receiving a substantial impetus for growth as a result of high demand for related services and products during this event. With over 35 concerts slated for the event, both rising and established artistes have a huge platform to up their act and directly connect with their fans. This would help a lot of them to perk up their fan base.

It is the firm conviction of the Sanwo-Olu administration that its strategic investments in entertainment infrastructure will help deepens the hold of Lagos on the sector. The ultimate objective is for entertainment to help drive the much desired alternative economy in tourism and hospitality.
